Matthew Devlin - Trustee

Matthew Devlin

One of the founder members of the Community Chaplaincy Association, he has retired as Chair while continuing as a trustee and treasurer.

About Matthew

Matthew's professional career started in industry and was enriched by studying and obtaining an MBA. He worked for an international bank for 15 years where, among other things, he introduced new programmes and products. He then spent a few years as a Management Consultant before turning to the voluntary sector, initially supporting Family Mediation.

He later met and worked with those in prison by volunteering for several years as an assistant chaplain in HMP Erlestoke, a Cat C prison. He found work with people in prison formative but wanted to attend to the next stage in a person’s journey following release. This led him to supporting Community Chaplaincy in the South West and in its national endeavour.

He was one of the founder members of the Community Chaplaincy Association and later became its Chair. He has retired as Chair while continuing as a trustee and treasurer. He is also a trustee of two community chaplaincies: South West Community Chaplaincy and Wandsworth Community Chaplaincy (Change for Good). He enjoys their distinct differences: including the challenges of serving a rural community versus a large city one. He chairs Wandsworth and has high hopes for an effective, across London, collaborative network of community chaplaincies to meet the needs of everyone returning to the London community from prison anywhere in the country.

Matthew is an active member of his local catholic parish and a trained spiritual director. His life is enriched by his wife, four children and three grandchildren. He lives in Wiltshire and his demanding dog keeps him walking everyday.
